Welcome
Hello, I’m Sue Lynes, a fully qualified person-centred counsellor offering a warm and supportive space for adults and couples to explore life’s challenges. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, struggling with low self-esteem, facing relationship difficulties, or navigating grief, I’m here to help you feel seen, heard, and understood. You don’t have to face these challenges alone—together, we can work towards finding clarity, healing, and growth at your own pace.
At the heart of my work is the belief that each person has the inner strength and capacity for growth. I’ll offer a compassionate and non-judgmental space where you can express yourself freely and explore what’s truly important to you. Rather than telling you what to do, I’ll help you discover new perspectives, build your confidence, and find the solutions that feel right for you. Together, we’ll work towards meaningful change and a deeper connection to yourself and others.
I’m a qualified person-centred counsellor with an Advanced Diploma Level 5 in Person-Centred Counselling. I’ve had the privilege of supporting people from many walks of life through both my private practice and volunteer work. I previously volunteered with a charity supporting individuals affected by sexual and domestic abuse, offering a safe space for them to process their experiences. Currently, I’m a volunteer counsellor for a neonatal bereavement charity, helping parents navigate the complex emotions that come with the loss of a baby.
These experiences have deepened my understanding of grief, trauma, and the strength people show in difficult times. They’ve also shaped my compassionate and non-judgmental approach, which I bring into every counselling session.
"People think they know you. They think they know how you're handling a situation. But the truth is no one knows. No one knows what happens after you leave them, when you're lying in bed or sitting over your breakfast alone and all you want to do is cry or scream. They don't know what's going on inside your head - the mind-numbing cocktail of anger and sadness and guilt. This isn't their fault. They just don't know. And so they pretend and they say you're doing great when you're really not. And this makes everyone feel better. Everybody but you."
— William H. Woodwell Jr.
I offer support with a range of issues to meet your unique needs. Below are some of the areas I can help with:
Anxiety can feel overwhelming, affecting both your mind and body. It might show up as persistent worry, racing thoughts, or physical symptoms like restlessness and tension. Together, we can explore the underlying causes of your anxiety, helping you understand your triggers and develop healthier coping strategies. My aim is to support you in finding calm, regaining control, and feeling more at ease in your daily life.
Living with depression can feel isolating, leaving you drained and disconnected from the world around you. Whether you’re struggling to find motivation, experiencing feelings of sadness, or questioning your sense of purpose, I’m here to listen and support you. In our work together, we’ll explore these feelings with compassion and without judgment, helping you reconnect with yourself and move towards healing and renewed hope.
Low self-esteem can affect every aspect of life, from relationships to decision-making and personal fulfilment. If you often find yourself feeling not good enough or doubting your worth, we can work on building self-compassion and challenging negative self-beliefs. Together, we’ll focus on helping you develop a more confident and kinder relationship with
yourself.
Relationships can be a source of great joy but also deep frustration and pain. Whether you’re struggling with communication, dealing with conflict, or feeling disconnected, counselling can offer a space to explore these challenges.
For couples, I provide a safe environment to express feelings openly, improve communication, and rebuild connection. For individuals, we can look at patterns in your relationships and explore how you can create healthier connections with others.
Grief is a deeply personal experience that can bring an array of emotions—sadness, anger, guilt, and even relief. There’s no right or wrong way to grieve. Whether you’ve experienced the loss of a loved one recently or some time ago, I offer a compassionate space to process your feelings at your own pace. For those coping with the loss of a baby or facing the unique pain of neonatal bereavement, I offer specialised support to help you navigate this complex journey.
I work from a warm, safe and private room, and see clients from Southsea, Portsmouth, Fareham, Petersfield, Southampton, Wickham, and the surrounding areas. I will provide location details when we arrange our counselling session.
